This year's theme invites us all to reflect on how technology is used to enhance school communities by connecting parents, teachers, businesses, and most importantly students. The focus of this year's conference is on ICT tools that enable the creation of a dynamic and engaging curriculum, and at the same time, improve communications within schools.

What will your school look like in the years to come?

Schools are very dynamic and constantly evolving organisations. The roles and functions they fulfil have changed over time to reflect the needs and demands of the societies they serve. Schooling systems continually change to cater for the needs fostered by social movements. Think about what schools were like in 1850, 1900, 1950 and today. In each period schools evolved to reflect changing social patterns. Technology is perhaps the biggest agent of change in schools. From the use of chalk and slates to pens and paper, through to the World Wide Web and the internet, each new change fosters the need for schools to adapt existing practices, adopt some new ones and discard methods considered out of date.

Over the past few years, the educational sector, both here and overseas, has been exploring the next wave of technological advances and how they will impact upon schools. But in doing so, it is important to remember that a large body of research clearly shows that a student's sense of belonging and connectedness with their school and teachers is the critical component for a successful education. This conference provides a forum for sharing experiences with information and communication technologies in building and enhancing our school communities.
